Our Goteau des Girarmes, Pouilly Fumé Recommended By Decanter

June 2020

Following publication of the June issue of Decanter, we’re delighted to see that our Goteau des Girarmes, Pouilly Fumé has been recommended by the esteemed Decanter tasting panel made up of Jim Budd, Rebecca Gibb and Chris Kissack.

A wine region that is home to some of the world’s most famous names, the Loire Valley sings Sauvignon Blanc. In the latest issue, the brilliant Jim Budd explores the region’s different appellations and how they each showcase the essence of this famous grape variety.

In the tasting, our Goteau des Girarmes, Pouilly Fumé scored a solid 89 points with the judge’s tasting notes highlighting the “Lovely floral, lavender aromas lead to a lipsmacking, smoking palate and a zesty lemon finish”.

Pouilly Fumé vies with its neighbour across the river, Sancerre, to make the most classically defined French Sauvignon Blanc. Roger Pabiot is a 4th generation winemaker working from a 21ha domaine in Tracy-sur-Loire which includes some 80 year old vines.

The varied terroir includes the four different soils of the region: hard limestone, flinty clay, sandy terraces and Kimmeridgian marl – each lending particular characteristics in the blending of the final wine

Goteau des Girarmes is made by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats, the use of an indigenous yeast and ageing in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.

As a result of the soils, the wine is normally fuller, richer and slightly less subtlety defined. Unlike Sancerre no red or rose is produced in the AC.

We can confirm it’s drinking exceedingly well so get in touch for some Loire summer Sauvignon magic.
