About the Producer

Bodegas Barahonda

The Candela family have taken Barahonda from a small local business in the 1850s, through an established Bodega in 1925, to now.

The history starts around 1850, when Pedro Candela Soriano began to produce and sell small quantities of wine locally until, in 1925, Antonio Candela García founded a small winery. It was subsequently taken over by his son, Antonio Candela Poveda, who grew and evolved it over the years.

With the need to create higher quality wines Bodegas Barahonda was founded in 2006 and is currently run by Antonio and Alfredo, the fourth generation of the Candela family.

The winery building stands out with its characteristic silhouette of simple and symmetrical lines in contrast to the old farmhouses that surround it. Despite this, it is perfectly integrated into the landscape of the valley, built with traditional materials and surrounded by the vineyards that provide the precious raw material.

As symbolised by Barahonda’s iconic image, their wines are united to the land, made from the vine, giving the vineyard the care it deserves as an essential part of its personality and quality.
