Le Bois de la Tour – Haut Poitou
Haut-Poitou lies a short distance to the south of the Loire Valley, near the town of Neuville-de-Poitou. Here the Sauvignon Blanc grape offers much of the character of a Touraine, but with exceptional value compared with the grand Sancerre or Pouilly-Fume.
Very intense with aromas of lemon and exotic fruits with a crisp, citrus, mouthwatering finish. The expressive gooseberry and grassy flavours retain an excellent balance and clean zingy finish. Capable of ageing 5 years.
About the Producer
Cave du Haut Poitou
Founded in 1948 by Jean Raffarin, father of a former French prime minister, the Haut-Poitou co-operative cellar produces wines under the appellation IGP Val de Loire and AOC Haut-Poitou.
In 1995, the “Beaujolais pope”, Georges Duboeuf, bought the cellar, modernised the installations and kept the structure afloat before retiring in 2006. Since then the cellar has entrusted the marketing of its wines to Alliance Loire, a grouping of cooperatives in the Loire Valley.
