Volcanic Wines

September 2017

With just over 2 weeks to go until ProjectHOME, our new Les Volcans Gamay is definitely one that has been causing eruptions in the trade and is not to be missed at our exclusive trade tasting.

Les Volcans is based in Côtes d’Auvergne and interestingly, the wine is produced around the Puy-de-Dôme volcano at the edge of the Massif Central in France making it volcanic.

These wines are being found in Europe and America and have definitely created some intrigue and conversation with many believing that the volcanic soil provides a unique minerally quality to wines.

Les Volcans’ resident oenologist Olivier Mignard originates from a family of vignerons close to Carcassonne and has been at the Cave Saint-Verny since 1999 instigating a rigorous assessment of all the vineyards under his control to ensure that every parcel has a predetermined place within the cooperative’s range of wines.

The winery’s Gamay/Pinot Noir will be available to taste at the ProjectHOME event which takes place from 10-8pm at Manchester’s art and culture hub – HOME, 2 Tony Wilson Place, First Street, Manchester, M15 4FN.  The event will also feature:

  • The latest launch from Sweden’s infamous Pang Pang brewery
  • A ‘Best of Northern Spain’ tasting featuring wine, beer and Sidra
  • A ‘Spanish Craft Beer’ showcase including a selection of the coolest breweries from Spain, Basque and Catalonia.
  • A #Pourfection session to test people’s perfect serve skills with Germany’s Krombacher brewery plus a special low alcohol tasting
