Krombacher Hell | 5.0% Westphalia, Germany

£69.90

Krombacher Hell is a “Munich Helles Lager” style of beer, light coloured with a smooth and full-bodied taste – ideal for those who prefer a fuller-bodied beer and less astringency.

The subtle hopping, use of distinctive malt flavour and extra filtration ensure that Krombacher Hell is moderately less bitter and has a pleasantly sweet taste.

Hell is the German adjective for “light”, while Helles is a noun used in the sense of “a light tone”. However, this designation refers to colour only, and not to the alcoholic strength.

Krombacher is a perfect marriage of old brewing traditions with modern technology and use of the finest natural ingredients: top quality hops from Hallertau, premium malt from spring barley and their own yeast strain – used fresh and once only in each brew. Their own water supply – the pure Felsquellwasser® (mountain spring water) – provides the essence to the uniqueness and taste of their beers.

Independent and still family owned they have no incentive to compromise on quality. Their commitment to this and taste combines to “turn a beer into a real Krombacher.”

Krombacher Brauerei was founded in 1803 in the small town of Krombach, nestling in the beautiful Siegerland Hills of Westfalia, central Germany. It was sited to take advantage of the local pure Felsquellwasser (spring water) still used by the brewery today.

Tasting Notes:

Straw-blond colour and when poured into a glass a tall, firm and creamy-white head rises. The aromas are balanced with fine floral notes and hints of freshly harvested hops with a slight bready yeast tone noticeable. A full bodied brew with very little up front bitterness and a subtle hint of sweet, lightly toasted malt. Only in the aftertaste can a slight bitterness be perceived, but far less pronounced than that of Northern German Pilseners.

Combining Hell’s sweetness with strong and salty dishes further enhances the flavour of this lager.
