Dolcetto del Alba Poderi della Collinetta
Piedmont, Italy
Dolcetto ‘little sweet one’ is a major grape of Piedmonte – the everyday wine of the local people of the Langhe hills. The vineyards for Poderi della Collinetta are around the areas of Neviglie e Barolo.
The wine is soft but has a quite pronounced character , typical of the grapes it comes from. It is smooth and balanced and also has a touch of complex spiciness. It has strong pigments and high tannins so a short maceration – about 6 days – and vinification in stainless steel tanks gives a full, fruity wine with a dry lingering aftertaste.
Poderi della Collinetta are wines made with the great passion of a famous winemaker, Roberto Sarotto. He has a strong belief in traditional values, but at the same time not afraid to take new ways and can be considered a“local pioneer” in the wine field.
Food matching: it is a very versatile wine and it represents an excellent match with starters like salami and raw ham, with soups and pasta, light red meat and some fatty fish like eel and salmon. It is regarded by the local people as a wine which can be slightly chilled in summer months and sipped with many cold starter dishes.
