Konigin Victoriaberg Riesling | Rheingau, Germany

£22.70

Konigin Victoriaberg has an interesting history and British connections. In 1845, Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert visited Hochheim and were led by the city fathers to “the most beautiful and best vineyard” of the district for a wine tasting. In 1850 Georg Michael Papstmann – the owner of the vineyard at that time – was, because of Victoria’s enthusiasm, granted the permission by the British Crown to call the vineyard “Königin Victoriaberg”. Further, as a commemoration, an English neo-Gothic monument (pictured on the label) was erected among the vines.

The wine has been served at many state events since, whenever the British royal family has visited German, most recently to Prince William and Kate in 2017.

Joachim Flick Winery is based in the town of Wicker, close to Frankfurt, in the Rheingau region. Their acclaimed Strassenmühle estate has a history spanning over 700 years.

The Flick family has been in the agricultural and winemaking industry for many generations. The winery business came in greater focus when Joachim Flick took over the reins in 1973; in 1992 Reiner Flick took over the wine estate and expanded it to its present size and the Konigin Victoriaberg vineyards have been leased since 2010.
