Martin Berdugo Parcela 100 | Ribera del Duero, Spain

£30.90

100% Tinto Fino grapes from the first 11 ha of the Berdugo estate to be certified organic.

The grapes are taken from 255 lines of vines – a low-yielding tempranillo clone – in the north of the vineyard, planted in 2000 and certified organic in 2020. The gravel and sand soil and limestone subsoil are excellent for concentrating flavours and aromas in the grapes.

Harvesting was at night, in low temperatuess, to retain the grapes natural aromas. Selected whole bunches underwent fermentation at a controlled 24°C to extract concentrated flavours while preserving the aromas. Malolactic fermentaion lasted 3 – 6 weeks.

The wine was aged for more than 9 months in new and second use French and American oak 225lt barriques with light to medium toasting.

Limited relaese – only 7,000 bottles were produced in 2020.

Martin Berdugo  are a modern, progressive, family company; easily witnessed by the contemporary architecture of the winery and their labels. Less obvious though is their constant evolving and experimentation with the wine making.

They look for improvement at every harvest and have a passion to bring what they call an “element of difference” to those who share their taste and wine philosophy: one of style, flair, communication, discovery and “the creation of unforgettable moments”.

Origin: Ribera del Duero, Spain

Grapes: Tempranillo

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red with hints of mauve. Tempranillo’s typical ripe berry fruit aromas emerge with notable concentration and focus, providing a lively feast of dark red cherries, ripe strawberries and plums, enveloped in mineral nuances derived from the vineyard. The fruit flavours, which mirror precisely those found in the aroma, come alive in the mouth with a spicy intensity that is joined by smooth tannins and fresh acidity that deliver a balanced mouthfeel that persists into a long, clean finish.
