MK Grüner Veltliner | Domane Wachau, Austria

£15.90

MK is sourced from the precipitous vineyards of the Wachau that are squeezed between the towns of Melk and Krems. Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s greatest grape, is a variety that impresses: it may not be the most aromatic of grapes but it is always refined, with a persona that is chiselled, cool and refreshing.

Domäne Wachau is a leading winegrowers' cooperative dating from 1938 under the name Winzergenossenschaft Wachau after acquiring the former Starhemberg family vineyards. It was subsequently renamed Freie Weingärtner Wachau in 1990 before officially adopting its present name in 2008.

With over 160 hectares of organic vineyards Domäne Wachau is Austria’s leading organic grower. Situated on steep slopes and organised into small parcels that are worked mainly by hand, each vigneron cultivates less than two hectares on average — allowing them to focus on the needs of the individual plot. This is a wine cooperative as found nowhere else.

Wine has been cultivated in the Wachau for centuries. Primary rock soil, an exceptional climate and terraces overlooking the Danube River have great influence on the tremendous quality of the Wachau wines.
