Nadir Syrah | Sicily, Italy
Nadir takes its name from the Arabic word Nazir, meaning “deep, rare or precious”
Within Rapitala’s estate, at a height between 300-400m, there is an area of soil where dark clays alternate with tufa-rich sand. It is here that they have chosen to plant Syrah vines and tend them organically.
The grapes have an initial cold pre-maceration lasting 6 days before a traditional maceration at a controlled temperature of 25C. This ensures a great extraction of aromas and soft tannins.
A proportion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in new medium-toasted barriques and after a few months maturing is blended back in, the final wine then being matured for a year in steel vats.
