Silver Reign Sparkling Brut | England
Silver Reign is an English sparking wine based on Champagne grape varietals but made by the Charmat method.
Silverhand Estate is now the largest producers in the UK specialising in “Charmat not Champers”.
The Charmat method, also known as ‘Cuvee Close’ or ‘Tank Method’, is widely associated with the production of Prosecco in Italy and Sekt in Germany but is used for making sparkling wines in many other countries around the world and increasingly in England. The Charmat method dates back to the late 18th century when it was developed by an Italian, Federico Martinotti, although it was Frenchman Eugene Charmat who refined the process and gave it its name.
Silver Reign Brut is crafted from 62% Chardonnay, 19% Pinot Noir and 19% Pinot Meunier; with 12 g/l residual sugar it is towards the top of ‘Brut’ sweetness. It rests for 3 months in tank, on the lees.
The main Estate is located in Luddesdown, Kent in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Silverhand are passionate about protecting this environment with a dedicated conservation team working tirelessly across the estate to ensure the flora and fauna are able to thrive in the vineyards. They have now established the largest single organic vineyard in the UK, covering an area of more than 600 acres and are defining the new norms of English sparkling wine.
