Duvel 666 – 33cl

Duvel 666 blonde beer was launched in 2021 to celebrate Flemish brewery Duvel Moortgat ‘s 150th anniversary – paying homage to its ‘devilish’ name by carrying the ‘number of the beast’!

Every batch always undergoes a rigorous checking and close monitoring during the brewing process to ensure (allowing for a minor margin) the beer will always be 6.66% ABV.

This is of a lower strength than Duvel’s classic beers making it more accessible to consumers intimidated by higher their other ABV beers but with their distinctive quality.

No fewer than 6 different hop varieties are used and just like the classic 8.5% Duvel, it’s based on the noble and exclusive hop varieties Saaz and Styrian Golding. The flavour is then balanced by adding four expertly selected hop varieties to the mix, which also involves the dry-hopping method. Orange zest is also used as an adjunct.

Awards:

Gold Medal – 2021 International Beer Challenge, in the category ‘Belgian Style Hoppy Blond’.

Gold Medal – Le Concours International de Lyon France, in the category ‘Haute Fermentation/Blond’.

Tasting Notes:

Mildly bitter, expressive and deliciously drinkable. Lively fruity aromas, full bodied with a natural haziness. A gently bitter, fruity and spicy, full-bodied but balanced beer.

About the Brand

Duvel

The brewery Moortgat was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat, who was descended from a family of Belgium brewers. It’s name acquired the Duvel prefix owing to the huge success of that brand.

Duvel is the strongest performing and best-known beer in their portfolio which also includes Vedett (launched in 1945), Chouffe (acquired in 2006), Liefmans (in 2008) and Brouwerij ‘t IJ (in 2015).

It now produces over 2 million hectolitres a year but continues to experiment with exciting lines in their new microbrewery.
