Duvel Tripel Hop Citra – 33cl

A stronger version of the classic Duvel – hoppier and a higher abv.

It is made from 3 hops – Styrian Goldings and Saaz are present in all Duvel beers, with the addition of a third. It started in 2007 as a limited edition special brew the third hop being Amarillo. Further years saw different varietals used until, in 2016, Citra was voted as the most popular and it became a permanent addition to the range.

Hops are added to the copper boil in three stages, and dry hopped with Styrian Goldings. Dextrose is added before primary fermentation to boost the level of alcohol encouraging the yeast to work harder and turn more sugar to alcohol. Primary fermentation of 6 days is followed by a secondary fermentation of 3 days at a cool temperature. The beer is cold conditioned for a month, filtered and given a fresh dose of yeast and dextrose. On bottling it undergoes a third fermentation. (technical notes from Roger Protz).

Alcohol/VOL:
9.5%
Tasting Notes:

Light blond with a rich white head and fine bubbles. Intense citrus aromas with pink grapefruit and lime. Melon and passion fruit come slightly afterwards. Delicious tropical fruit, grapefruit and citrus form a great combination with spicy hops and rich biscuity malt.

About the Brand

Duvel

The brewery Moortgat was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat, who was descended from a family of Belgium brewers. It’s name acquired the Duvel prefix owing to the huge success of that brand.

Duvel is the strongest performing and best-known beer in their portfolio which also includes Vedett (launched in 1945), Chouffe (acquired in 2006), Liefmans (in 2008) and Brouwerij ‘t IJ (in 2015).

It now produces over 2 million hectolitres a year but continues to experiment with exciting lines in their new microbrewery.
