Jericho Talara Vineyard Grenache

A first release of this impressive and exclusive wine limited to 1560 bottles.

Grapes are sourced from the Wait family’s ‘Talara’ vineyard, planted in 1985, in the renowned Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. The vineyard sits on sandy loam over shale soil, which has a big influence and what makes Blewitt Springs so unique, and produces an intense, full, complex and floral Grenache.

20% of the fruit was hand picked and the whole bunches were tipped into the bottom of an open fermenter and the remaining one & half tonnes were crushed on top of the whole bunches. Normal fermentation then occurred for 10 days; following which the whole bunches were crushed by foot and this allowed an extended fermentation and produced unique characters and flavours. The inclusion of the whole bunches enhances aromas and the stalks add a further dimensions and tannins to the structure and mouth-feel.

Matured in French oak barrels with 25% new oak for 11 months before bottling, with further 10 months bottle ageing before release.

Tasting Notes:

This is an exceptional and complex wine and has a great presence. The wine has an intense bouquet, perfectly balanced and long tasting structure. The palate has lovely redcurrant, black cherry and ripe plum fruit characters plus anise and floral herbs; the understated oak leads out with a smooth milk chocolate finish.

Drink now or cellar and enjoy this wine with extra bottle age for 8-15 years.

Great with game dishes such as venison or duck. Mushroom dishes are an excellent match for Grenache, as are those with strong herb flavours such as rosemary, thyme and sage.
