Mazer Nebbiolo

Mazer is a local dialect word meaning ‘distinguished’ – an apt description of this wine’s character.

This 100% Nebbiolo (the varietal used for the famous Barolo) is sourced from various zones of the Valtellina valley to obtain a great balance.

A small proportion of grapes are dried for a few days to enhance concentration and then added to the must – lending dark fruit notes to the aromas and further enriching the taste with soft tannins.

The vineyards, all within the Valtellina Superiore DOCG zone in Lombardy, are of shallow sandy loam soils of low fertility. The dry stone wall terraces have a variety of aspects – south, south east, south west – and ate between 300-500m above sea level.

After hand harvesting the grapes are selected for either a short vinification and extremely slow fermentation at low temperatures, or a longer (sometimes more than a month) maceration after a short fermentation. The wine is aged for two years, of which more than one is in medium and large vats of French and Slavonic oak.
