St Louis Coteaux Varois en Provence ‘Organic’ Rosé

Surrounded by the Côtes de Provence, the appellation of Coteaux Varois en Provence, ten times smaller than its big sister. It has a very particular typicality thanks to its terroir (a series of limestone and clay-limestone folds oriented from east to west alternate with areas of gravel and flint) and its very specific climate. It is perched at an altitude (between 200 and 500 meters), where winters are harsh and summers are scorching, with cooler nights. This alternation of temperature allows the grapes to ripen gently and slowly, allowing them to preserve their aromas as well as possible.

A blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grapes are mainly harvested by machine very early in the night in order to ensure that the wine has a lovely pale appearance. A short maceration on the skins is performed before pressing. The juices are settled at low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation is temperature-controlled and malolactic fermentation is prevented. Vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, in the traditional manner.

In the heart of the “Provence Calcaire”, several winegrowers have decided to make the move to organic growing and have therefore embarked on the conversion of their vineyards, a period of 3 years growing their vines organically before being able to state that the wines are organic. To illustrate these winegrowers’ commitment, Saint Louis de Provence 2019 displays the “under organic agriculture conversion” logo.

About the Producer

Estandon Vignerons

The cooperative spirit is the core of Estandon Vignerons’ values. Our French slogan “Un Estandon ne vient jamais seul” translates as “One Estandon can lead to another” but can also translate as “An Estandon never comes alone”. It is the second translation that best reflects the mindset of the company, because, Estandon Vignerons is a cooperative venture, which has long understood that, when people work together on a common project, they can excel and accomplish great things.

The winery believes that the prosperity of their business is closely tied to that of its industry and local area. They use corks from the local Var département in the bottles of our Estandon and Lumière de  Provence wines. These corks are produced in partnership with the Var forest management bodies, a training organisation and  DIAM, a closures manufacturer.

Estandon Vignerons also supports the “Provence Verte” local economy through the sponsorship of Pause Déjeuner, a young and socially-responsible catering startup, and the “Vivre Ensemble en Provence” (Living Together in Provence) humanitarian association in Brignoles which helps those who are unemployed or on a low income.
