Tondeluna Crianza
Tondeluna is Vallemayor’s second label Crianza, this being 100% Tempranillo. The use of toasted American oak gives more softness and sweetness.
Very approachable oak aged Rioja, soft and sweet with an upfront bouquet of red fruits, liquorice and vanilla.
Grapes from La Mata and Pagos del Valle vineyards ard fermented in stainless steel tanks between 26 and 28 ºC for two weeks. The wine is kept in the same tanks for post fermentation maceration for another 3 days. Barrel ageing is in 100% American casks with an age between 3 and 6 years.
Decanter: 90 points (special recommendation for 2021 vintage) Nov 2023.
A gleaming garnet with ruby-red hues. The nose is complex, with aromas of red berries with toasty notes from the wood and secondary aromas from malolactic fermentation. Soft and velvety mouth with a subtle and long liquorice aftertaste.
“A fine nose of fresh quince fruit. Sweet and fleshy black fruit on the palate, with grainy tannins and savoury oak. Balanced and fresh.” Decanter.

About the Producer
Bodegas Vallemayor
Vallemayor is the result of the dreams and vision of Luis Perez Foncea. He was forced by an illness to retire from working in the long established family vineyards and began selling wines from his home town of Fuenmayor. After many years he was able to realise his dream of building his own winery to develop his passion for the elaboration of wonderful Rioja wines.
The high quality of these wines ensured a commercial success and Luis’ sons took over in 1996, registering the new name Vallemayor for the still family owned business.
Nowadays Luis Carlos and Rafael Perez run the company with the same passion as their father, and still draw on the advice of their mother Fabiola Gonzalez.
The 70ha estate, growing predominantly Tempranillo, is owned by the family and they have direct control over a further 60ha of local growers. The winery, built in 1984, has undergone recent improvements and expansion. A new visitor centre with a beautiful tasting room now welcomes customers and the high quality of the wines is guaranteed by completely new winemaking machinery.
