Trus Pico de Luyas

Pico de Luyas is the peak located behind the Trus winery.

The estate, in the village of La Horra, is south facing at an elevation of 900m. In this high area where limestone predominates there is a slope where the fusion of limestone with clay takes place, giving rise to the best vineyards in the DO. These are the types of soil, topography and orientations that makes Pico de Luyas the peak of the wines from Ribera.

The vines are a minimum of 30 years old and grapes are harvested manually with the initial selection in the vineyard re-checked at the winery. Grapes are cooled at 10oC before processing to avoid oxidation. There follows daily manual punching down in the vats and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation; then malolactic fermentation in barrels with daily battonage of its fine lees. Ageing is for 16 months in 225 litre barrels. The wine is bottled without filtering or clarification.

‘Trus’ stands for Tierra, Roble, Uve and Sol – Earth, Oak, Grape and Sun.

It is an acronym used to symbolise the coming together of these four natural elements to create perfect wines.

EARTH. A rich variety of minerals in the ground contribute to the personality of the grapes.

OAK barrels hand crafted in the best tradition and used to perfectly compliment the wine as it gentle ages in the cellars.

GRAPES hand selected from the finest local varietals, best adapted to the local conditions of Pesquera in the Ribera del Duero.

SUN “the element that leads.” Plenty of sun throughout the year brings top quality grapes, perfectly ripe for the vintage each September.

Alcohol/VOL:

Vintage:
2018
Tasting Notes:

Very dark cherry colour with abundant, and thick, tears. With good intensity on the nose, this is a fruity treat – predominantly black fruit, blackberries, cherries and also liquorice and toasty vanilla – against earthy background coming from the influence of the extremely calcareous soil.

The palate is ample, powerful, sweet, with structure and a marked but integrated acidity to support the alcohol content. Very good quality tannins, well-rounded and oily. A very full wine with great length.

About the Producer

Bodegas Trus

Bodegas Trus was born in 1999 with the aspiration and idea of producing wines of great quality and personality that are a true reflection of “pais y pericia” – ‘country and expertise’.

Bodegas Trus is located in the cradle of the Ribera del Duero. The quality of its wines is intimately related to the provenance of the grapes. Their vineyards are in the triangle of Pesquera, a privileged area due to its ideal micro climate and height. Trus benefits from the orientation of their vineyards, mainly north west, within the valley up to Pinel de Abajo at an altitude of 800 metres.
