Trus Reserva

Made from a selection of old vine plots, this is a wine that benefits from ageing.

Grapes are 100% Tinta Fina del País (Tempranillo), 25 year old vines, from a single plot – La Cruz, in Piñel de Abajo (Valladolid) one the highest areas of Ribera del Duero. The soils are a slight limestone slope, very poor though with a fragile texture that allows root penetration.

After manual harvesting in boxes, destemming and gentle crushing there is daily pumping over and an intense maceration, reaching 30 degrees, over the last days of fermentation. Délestage is performed twice at the end of alcoholic fermentation.

Délestage is a fermentation and maceration technique used in red winemaking that gently extracts phenolic compounds by oxygenating the juice to produce a softer, less astringent wine exhibiting more fruit character. It is a two-step “rack-and-return” process in which fermenting red wine juice is separated from the grape solids by racking and then returned to the fermenting vat for further interaction with a proportion of the skins.

This is followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, then ageing for 18 months in 225-litre French oak barrels. It is bottled with minimal filtration to avoid altering the wine’s characteristics and kept in bottle for 24 months before release.

‘Trus’ stands for Tierra, Roble, Uve and Sol – Earth, Oak, Grape and Sun.

It is an acronym used to symbolise the coming together of these four natural elements to create perfect wines.

EARTH. A rich variety of minerals in the ground contribute to the personality of the grapes.

OAK barrels hand crafted in the best tradition and used to perfectly compliment the wine as it gentle ages in the cellars.

GRAPES hand selected from the finest local varietals, best adapted to the local conditions of Pesquera in the Ribera del Duero.

SUN “the element that leads.” Plenty of sun throughout the year brings top quality grapes, perfectly ripe for the vintage each September.

Deep cherry red in colour and a very complex of great intensity. It shows notes of red fruit, ripe black fruit, balsam and a distinct mineral character. The palate is ample and fleshy, with ripe, marked tannins, typical of soils with a high limestone content. Very balanced, with a long aftertaste and a long life ahead.

Decanting is recommended before consumption.

Suitable for laying down and a long period of ageing in the cellar.

About the Producer

Bodegas Trus

Bodegas Trus was born in 1999 with the aspiration and idea of producing wines of great quality and personality that are a true reflection of “pais y pericia” – ‘country and expertise’.

Bodegas Trus is located in the cradle of the Ribera del Duero. The quality of its wines is intimately related to the provenance of the grapes. Their vineyards are in the triangle of Pesquera, a privileged area due to its ideal micro climate and height. Trus benefits from the orientation of their vineyards, mainly north west, within the valley up to Pinel de Abajo at an altitude of 800 metres.
