Vallemayor Nexo Tempranillo

Nexo (Nexus – a connection, tie or link) is a new wine in the Vallemayor portfolio. A 100% Tempranillo Rioja with 4 months oak ageing, that bridges the styles of modernity and tradition.

Sourced from a single vineyard in La Mata, the selected grapes were picked during the first two weeks of October. Vinification started with a cold maceration for two days, then fermentation in stainless steel tank between 26 and 28 ºC for two weeks. The wine was kept in the same tanks for a post-fermentation maceration for a further two days.

American new oak barrels were filled in in December 2023 and kept until following March; then very softly clarified with peas protein and bentonite before bottling in April 2024.

Vallemayor has been the principal Rioja agency in Morgenrot’s portfolio for decades. They combine modern technology and traditional knowledge for the elaboration of their wines.

About the Producer

Bodegas Vallemayor

Vallemayor is the result of the dreams and vision of Luis Perez Foncea. He was forced by an illness to retire from working in the long established family vineyards and began selling wines from his home town of Fuenmayor. After many years he was able to realise his dream of building his own winery to develop his passion for the elaboration of wonderful Rioja wines.

The high quality of these wines ensured a commercial success and Luis’ sons took over in 1996, registering the new name Vallemayor for the still family owned business.

Nowadays Luis Carlos and Rafael Perez run the company with the same passion as their father, and still draw on the advice of their mother Fabiola Gonzalez.

The 70ha estate, growing predominantly Tempranillo, is owned by the family and they have direct control over a further 60ha of local growers. The winery, built in 1984, has undergone recent improvements and expansion. A new visitor centre with a beautiful tasting room now welcomes customers and the high quality of the wines is guaranteed by completely new winemaking machinery.
